Henry, Herman and August (Gus) Holt came to Santa Barbara County from Germany in 1870. The brothers owned thousands of acres of farmland in the area of Los Alamos and Cat Canyon. Louis Holt, a nephew of the family moved into the area from Germany about 1898.
When Herman Holt died, December 1st, 1914, his estate was valued at $98,958. The bulk of the estate was left to his brother Henry. Herman’s home was on the north side of Los Alamos where the Rancho Jamore trailer park is today. The December 23, 1920, Santa Maria Times reported the estate of Henry Holt to be worth about a million dollars.
