Welcome to FOLAC Weekly Monuments, a new weekly online journal from Friends of Los Alamos Cemetery (FOLAC) to honor local history, care for a remarkable place, and invite the community to help support its preservation.
Tucked along Drum Canyon Road just south of town, Los Alamos Cemetery is more than a tranquil resting place. It’s a living record of our town’s families, veterans, workers, and neighbors, told across generations. Each marker tells its part of the town’s story: who we’ve been, what we’ve endured, and how we built this community.
What to expect from Weekly Monuments
To keep things sustainable and interesting, this space will rotate regularly through several recurring themes, including:
- This Week in Los Alamos: brief snapshots of local history (sometimes tied to the cemetery).
- Monument & Marker Spotlight: symbols, epitaphs, and what they can tell us.
- Stewardship & Restoration Updates: small wins and ongoing needs.
- Veteran & Service Spotlights: honoring duty and assistance with care and respect.
- How You Can Help: easy ways to get involved, from volunteering to donations.
Why an online journal, and why now
Regular FOLAC updates help people discover our website, learn about the cemetery, and understand what it takes to maintain and preserve it. Our intention is that over time, increased visibility and access will support what matters most: volunteer help, event attendance, and donations that fund real work on the ground.
How you can help this week (or next)
To support the care and preservation of Los Alamos cemetery:
- Donate (even small gifts make a difference) https://folacca.org/donate/
- Volunteer (for a workday, a small project, or help at a fundraising event) https://folacca.org/member-register/
- Share (this post and our mission with someone who cares about Los Alamos history)
Impact: A modest donation helps cover essentials like maintenance supplies, repairs, and preservation tasks that protect headstones, pathways, and shared spaces for visitors.
We’d love to hear from you
